About  Our Parish

The Saint Pault the Apostle Church is located in the west portion of New Providence at Lyford Cay. It was estabished in the late 1960's as a small Catholic parish which, over the past years and with the same spirit of service to God, has grown into an active and lively Christian community, becaming home for many Catholics based in the west side of the island. The history of St Paul the Apostle Church is linked with that of the internationally renowed residential development of Lyford Cay. In the 1960's the developers of Layford Cay, keen to afford its residents easy access to places of worship, generously offered both the Anglican and Catholic dioceses of Nassau a portion of property within the new residential compound.  Bishop Paul Leonard Hagarty accepted the offer but requested that the donated property be located outiside the gated entrance of Layford Cay, as he felt strongly that all Catholics, wherever they resided, should have access to the new church. His request was acceded to and in 1964 Bishop Leonard received the option to purchase an additional seventeen acres adjoining to the original grounds, additing up to a total of twenty acres of church grounds. On March 5, 1967 the corner stone was laid at St Paul's site. The Church was dedicated on March 17, 1968, thanks to the leadership and generousity of many men and women who devoted their time and talent to complete the project.

At St Paul's we find our spiritual nourishment in the celebration of the Eucharist, the center of our worship. Our doors are always open, providing a peaceful place for quiet prayer and meditation for those who wish to visit us outside our Holy Mass times. We invite all our parishioners to join fully in our life at St. Paul’s, as we also take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to new members of our faith community. We hope that the many activities offered at our parish will contribute to refresh and strengthen your faith as well as enhance your experience as a member of our community. We pray that all parishioners will find a warm and welcoming home here at St Paul's.
